29 CFR 1910.132(a): Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, were not provided, used, and maintained wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment:   (a) Anodizing Area -  An employee was exposed to a burn hazard while pouring concentrated sulfuric and/or nitric acid from a bucket into various tanks on the anodizing line without the proper acid resistant gloves. The employee was wearing nitrile gloves that are not recommended for more concentrated acids.   (b) Anodizing Area- An employee was exposed to a splash hazard while pouring concentrated sulfuric and/or nitric acid and sodium hydroxide from a bucket into various tanks on the anodizing line without the proper eye protection. The employee was wearing safety glasses with no face shield.

29 CFR 1910.132(d)(2): The employer did not verify, through a written certification, the identity of the workplace evaluated, the person certifying that the evaluation had been performed, and the date the hazard assessment was done:  (a) Production Area- The employer did not verify that a personal protective equipment workplace hazard assessment had been performed for employees using hazardous substances, such as but not limited to, aluminum, sodium hydroxide, nitric, sulfuric, and phosphoric acids. It was not clear exactly what personal protective equipment was to be worn for specific jobs, tasks or chemicals.

Houghto-Clean A 1083 contains sodium nitrate and sodium tetraborate pentahydrate. Several of the tanks in the anodizing area were not labeled with their contents.

29 CFR 1910.134(c)(1): In any workplace where respirators are necessary to protect the health of the employee or whenever respirators are required by the employer, the employer shall establish and implement a written respiratory protection program with worksite-specific procedures:  (a) Buffing area- The employer had not established or implemented a respiratory protection program for employees required to wear respiratory protection while buffing aluminum parts. There was no written program, medical evaluations, fit-testing, or training.
