29 CFR 1910.138(a): General requirements. Employers shall select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. (a) M&M Department - M&M Machines: Employees were observed wiping down spinning chucks of the M&M machines while wearing only cotton and/or latex gloves exposing them to amputation and laceration hazards.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii): The point of operation of machines whose operation exposes an employee to injury, shall be guarded. The guarding device shall be in conformity with any appropriate standards therefor, or, in the absence of applicable specific standards, shall be so designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle. 29 CFR 1910.219(c)(4)(i): Projecting shaft ends shall present a smooth edge and end and shall not project more than one-half the diameter of the shaft unless guarded by non-rotating caps or safety sleeves. (a) Buffing department - Buffing machines and flange buffing machines: Employees were observed reaching into the buffers adjacent to rotating shafts on both the regular buffing machines and on the flange buffers to lube the buffing pads. Employees were exposed to amputation hazards from moving parts.
