Employees used negative pressure air purifying half face respirators or, powered air purifying respirators or, supplied air blasting hoods.

29 CFR 1910.134(h)(2)(i): Respirators were not stored to protect them from damage, contamination, dust, sunlight, extreme temperatures, excessive moisture, and damaging chemicals or  were not packed or stored to prevent deformation of the facepiece and exhalation valve:    (a) A half face respirator was left hanging in the welding production area of the FALK section exposing it to contamination.    (b)  The blast hood respirator used in the FALK shot blast booth was left lying on the dirty floor of the booth while the blaster was doing other tasks.

29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use:    (a)  The eye wash station near the EMD parts wash station was not readily accessable to the employee spraying the parts.  Caustic chemicals were used to spray wash the parts prior to painting.  Access to the eye wash was blocked by a railing and chemical tote storage.  The eye wash was not kept clean, sanitary and readily accessible for emergency eye flushing.
