29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer shall assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).   a) At the establishment, where employees worked with chemicals such as, but not limited to, Sulfuric Acid, Xylol, Pro Honda Carburetor Cleaner, and PB Blaster, a job hazard assessment had not been conducted to determine the hazards that employees were exposed to and the personal protective equipment required to protect them from the hazards.

29 CFR 1910.133(a)(1): The employer shall ensure that each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation.  a) At the establishment, employees who filled and charged batteries with sulfuric acid, a liquid corrosive, were not provided with chemical splash goggles.

29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use. [63 FR 33450, June 18, 1998]  a) At the establishment, in the battery charging/filling station, employees were exposed to sulfuric acid, a liquid corrosive, when filling and charging batteries and an emergency eye wash and safety shower were not available for the quick drenching of the eyes and body.

Employers shall have a safety data sheet in the workplace for each hazardous chemical which they use.  a) At the establishment, employees were exposed to inhalation and contact hazards when they used chemicals such as, but not limited to, Sulfuric Acid, Xylol, Pro Honda Carburetor Cleaner, and PB Blaster in the performance of their job. Safety data sheets were not available at the workplace.

29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employers shall provide employees with effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment, and whenever a new physical or health hazard the employees have not previously been trained about is introduced into their work area. Information and training may be designed to cover categories of hazards (e.g., flammability, carcinogenicity) or specific chemicals. Chemical-specific information must always be available through labels and material safety data sheets.  a)  At the establishment, employees exposed to inhalation and contact hazards when they used chemicals such as, but not limited to, Sulfuric Acid, Xylol, Pro Honda Carburetor Cleaner, and PB Blaster in the performance of their job had not received information and training on the hazards of the chemicals and the means the employer had provided to protect them from those hazards.
