Green Circle Growers, Inc. located at 51051 US Hwy 20 Oberlin, OH 44074; On or about July 24, 2014, the employer did not assure energy control procedures were developed, documented and utilized while performing maintenance on Robot #1 in the Orchid Range and Robot #1 in the 12 week grading area. Employees are required to perform maintenance activities such as changing sensors and cleaning and are exposed to caught by hazards and pinch points from the claws that carry the plants.

29 CFR 1910.147(d)(3): All energy isolating devices that were needed to control the energy to the machine or equipment were not physically located and operated in such a manner as to isolate the machine or equipment from the energy source(s): a.) Green Circle Growers, Inc. located at 51051 US Hwy. 20 Oberlin, OH 44074; On or about July 24, 2014, the employer did not assure employees were protected from accidental start up of Robot #1 in the Orchid Range and Robot #1 in the 12 week grading. Employees are required to change sensors and clean the robot without shutting down the disconnect, exposing them to pinch points and caught by hazards from the claws that pick up the plants.

29 CFR 1910.147(c)(7)(i): The employer did not provide adequate training to ensure that employees acquired the knowledge and skills required for the safe application, usage and removal of energy control devices: a.) Green Circle Growers, Inc. located at 51051 US Hwy. 20 Oberlin, OH 44074; On or about July 24, 2014, the employer did not assure that employees who service the robots were adequately trained in the skills required for the safe application, usage, and removal of energy controls. Employees that performed cleaning, sensor changes and other servicing tasks were not trained to isolate hazardous energy sources to protect against the unexpected energization and/or release of stored energy.
