29 CFR 1910.1000(a)(2): Employee(s) were exposed to an airborne concentration of Zinc Oxide Fume listed in Table Z-1 in excess of the 8 hour Time Weighted Average (TWA) concentration of 5.0 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3): (a) On November 3, 2016, one welder in the CIXX hand weld was exposed to Zinc Oxide Fume at an eight hour TWA of 5.3 mg/m3 for a 449 minute sampling period with a value of zero added for the 31 minutes not sampled. This exceeded the PEL by 106%. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET)

(b) On November 3, 2016, one welder in the CIXX hand weld was exposed to Copper Fume at an eight hour TWA of 0.101 mg/m3 for a 427 minute sampling period with a value of zero added for the 53 minutes not sampled. (b) When one welder in the CIXX hand weld was exposed to Iron Oxide Fume at 106% of the PEL, feasible administrative or engineering controls, such as but not limited to additional exposure monitoring to determine the effectiveness of the local exhaust ventilation and repair or adjust as needed were not used to reduce exposure below the PEL. (c) When one welder in the CIXX hand weld was exposed to Zinc Oxide Fume at 106% of the PEL, feasible administrative or engineering controls, such as but not limited to additional exposure monitoring to determine the effectiveness of the local exhaust ventilation and repair or adjust as needed were not used to reduce exposure below the PEL.
