29 CFR 1910.1026(c): Employees were exposed to an airborne concentration of chromium (VI) which exceeded 5 micrograms per cubic meter of air, as an 8-hour time-weighted average: 1. On or about 10/25/16, a sheet metal mechanic engaged in corrosion control operations by using a grinder to remove paint from an H-1 helicopter was overexposed to chromium VI at an 8 hour time weight average of 8.8 micrograms per cubic meter of air. This exceeded the permissible exposure level by 1.76 times. The exposure level was derived from one sample collected over a 82 minute sampling period. The remaining un-sampled time of 398 minutes was entered as zero exposure. 2. On or about 10/25/16, a sheet metal mechanic engaged in corrosion control operations by using a grinder to remove paint from a H-1 helicopter was overexposed to chromium VI at an 8 hour time weight average of 5.1 micrograms per cubic meter of air. This exceeded the permissible exposure level by 1.02 times. The exposure level was derived from one sample collected over a 75 minute sampling period. The remaining un-sampled time of 405 minutes was entered as zero exposure. ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED

29 CFR 1910.1026(f)(1)(i): Feasible engineering controls and work practices were not instituted to reduce and maintain employee exposures to chromium (VI) at or below 5 micrograms per cubic meter of air: AS4100: On or about 10/25/2016, two sheet metal mechanics were overexposed to a chromium VI while performing grinding operations on the H-1 helicopters where feasible engineering and work practice controls did not reduce exposures to chromium VI. ABATEMENT: Engineering and work practice controls include, but are not limited to the following: a) Increasing the overall ventilation inside the hangar bay with more localized ventilation. b) Instituting the use of more evacuated tools to immediately remove dust particles from breathing zone of employee. c) Changing to a paint with less chromium by percentage. All proposed control measures shall be evaluated for each particular use by a competent Industrial Hygienist or other technically qualified person. ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
