29 CFR 1910.107(d)(7): Exhaust ducts were not constructed of steel: (a) Hill Air Force Base, at Building 680, Hill Air Force Base, UT: On and preceding 12/20/16, The employer did not ensure that exhaust ducts used to ventilate the paint spraying enclosure were constructed of steel. Employees sprayed coatings and primers containing flammable liquids within an enclosure. The paint enclosure was constructed of plastic sheeting and PVC pipe as the frame. The enclosure was provided with a portable exhaust and filtration unit. The exhaust ducts used to ventilate the enclosure were constructed of flexible plastic. This condition exposed employees to a fire hazard.

29 CFR 1910.157(d)(4): Portable fire extinguishers for use on Class B fires were not distributed so that the travel distance from the Class B hazard area to any extinguisher was 50 feet or less: (a) Hill Air Force Base, at Building 680, Hill Air Force Base, UT: On and preceding 12/20/16, the employer did not ensure that adequate fire extinguishers were distributed so that the travel distance from the Class B hazard area to any extinguisher was 50 feet or less. Employees sprayed primers and coatings containing flammable liquids within an enclosure constructed of plastic sheeting and PVC piping. The enclosure was not provided with an immediately accessible means of fire protection. This spray painting enclosure was located approximately 166 feet from the nearest portable fire extinguisher. This condition exposed employees to a fire hazard.
