Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employee(s) in that employee(s) were exposed to the following hazard: On or about 2/16/2017, seventeen employees were exposed to being struck and/or crushed by a falling load while operating six overhead cranes, with damaged and deficient spreader bars, on the Danieli, Schumag and Kieserling lines at St. Louis Cold Drawn in St. Louis, MO. AMONG OTHER METHODS, A FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: Mark, test, inspect and use the spreader bars in accordance with ASME B30.20 1999, Chapter 20-1. DISCLAIMER: a/ The employer is not limited to the abatement method(s) suggested by OSHA. b/ The employer is responsible for selecting and implementing an effective abatement method.
