29 CFR 1910.94(a)(4)(i): The construction, installation, inspection, and maintenance of exhaust systems shall conform to the principles and requirements set forth in American National Standard Fundamentals Governing the Design and Operation of Local Exhaust Systems, Z9.2-1960, and ANSI Z33.1-1961, which are incorporated by reference as specified in �� 1910.6. a) On or about February 28, 2017, and times prior thereto, the inspection and maintenance to operate the table top exhaust ventilation hood in the mail room properly was not known nor practiced. Staff were placed at risk to unknown hazards from opening suspect mail that may contain highly toxic substances. b) On or about February 28, 2017, and times prior thereto, the inspection and maintenance to operate the table top exhaust ventilation hood in the seizure room was not known nor practiced. Staff were placed at risk to being exposed to potentially highly toxic hazards when testing illicit drugs. This item corrected at time of the inspection.

29 CFR 1910.1030(c)(1)(i): Each employer having an employee(s) with occupational exposure as defined by paragraph (b) of this section shall establish a written Exposure Control Plan designed to eliminate or minimize employee exposure. a) On or about February 15, 2017, and times prior thereto, a site specific plan had not been established for staff who were required to follow safe practices to eliminate the risk of acquiring bloodborne diseases and mandatorily participated in receiving the Hepatitis B vaccination upon initial training at the federal training center. There is no method to confirm that staff had been offered the Hepatitis B vaccination within in 10 working days of initial assignment. Note: Abatement certification is required for this item.
