29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii): Point of operation of machinery were not guarded to prevent employee from having any part of their body in the danger zone during operating cycle. (a) A manual shear press in the Idaho Army National Guard Sheet Metal Shop located on Gowen Field, Boise, ID on or about May 6, 2017, or prior thereto, had the guard raised creating an amputation hazard. Employees of the Guard as well as Pacific Architects and Engineers Inc. employees frequently used the shear press to make precision cuts to small pieces of sheet metal. The use of the shear press resulted in the amputation of Pacific Architects and Engineers Inc. employee on February 9th, 2017 and of a federal employee approximately 3 years ago. NOTE: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item.
