29 CFR 1910.134(i)(5)(i): Compressors used to supply breathing air to respirators were not so constructed and situated so as to prevent entry of contaminated air into the air-supply system: (a) U.S. Department of the Air Force, 78 ABW/SE, Warner Robins, GA-The air intakes to Buildings 59P and 59D Continuous Breathing Air systems are located where vehicles operate and are parked. Controls, including markings stating "vehicle-free areas" and/or a sign, were not placed on the fence leading into the air intake area. Trucks were seen coming in and out of the area. (b) U.S. Department of the Air Force, 78 ABW/SE, Warner Robins, GA - Throughout the painting and depainting departments- Buildings 59P and 59D- Employees are complaining of "bad taste and odors" while using respirators, on or about 09/06/17. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.

29 CFR 1910.134(k): The employer did not provide comprehensive, understandable training which did not occur annually and/or more often if necessary: U.S. Department of the Air Force, Warner Robins, GA - Painting and Depainting Departments-Employees are complaining of "bad odors" and "low air pressure" while using the Breathing Air Respirators. Employee training and/or retraining did not include, but is not limited to: a) Operation of the Breathing Air Respirators and Boxes (Grade D Breathing Air requirements) b) Positioning of the Breathing Air Boxes (BABs), c) Adjusting the air pressure, and d) Testing the CO alarm before use of the BABs. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.
