29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation shall be protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with 29 CFR 1926.652 (b) or (c):    (a)Runge Enterprises, Inc. working north of 57th Street, approximately 2000 feet west of 57th Street tunnel, Sioux Falls, SD 57106:  On or about September 12, 2017, the employer did not ensure that employees conducting work in an excavation were protected from cave-in, in that the excavation was approximately 9 feet deep and lacked an adequate protective system, such as sloping or a shield system.  This condition exposed employees to struck-by hazards associated with a trench wall collapse.    Runge Enterprises, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1) which was contained in OSHA inspection number 906362 citation number 2, item number 2a and was affirmed as a final order on November 5, 2013 with respect to a workplace located at Kiwanis and Russell Street in Sioux Falls, SD.
