29 CFR 1910.132(a): Application. Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact.    a) Protective barriers and/or shields were not in place to prevent employees exposure to burn hazards in that the product pipes were not covered exposing employees to burn hazard in excess of 200 degrees.       b) Protective clothing was not provided for the extremities in that on September 10, 2018 while working with Capsicum the product spilled splashing onto the employee body.

29 CFR 1910.219(c)(2)(i): All exposed parts of horizontal shafting seven (7) feet or less from floor or working platform, excepting runways used exclusively for oiling, or running adjustments, shall be protected by a stationary casing enclosing shafting completely or by a trough enclosing sides and top or sides and bottom of shafting as location requires.      a) A shaft on Filler Line 'A' at the operators station was not guarded or covered exposing employees to rotating parts.    b) A shaft on the Filler Line 'A' at the start of the line near the kettles was not guarded or covered exposing employees to rotating parts.    c) A shaft attached to the kettle pump was not guarded or covered exposing employee to rotating parts.

Gears shall be guarded in accordance with one of the following methods:   (i) By a complete enclosure; or   (ii) By a standard guard as described in paragraph (o) of this section, at least seven (7) feet high extending six (6) inches above the mesh point of the gears; or   (iii) By a band guard covering the face of gear and having flanges extended inward beyond the root of the teeth on the exposed side or sides. Where any portion of the train of gears guarded by a band guard is less than six (6) feet from the floor a disk guard or a complete enclosure to the height of six (6) feet shall be required.     a) Mesh gearing on the Elgin Filling Machine was not guarded exposing employees to pinch point hazards.
