(b) Donation Sorting Area: On or about December 18, 2019 the employer's exposure control plan did not address as part of the occupational exposure determination that employees use garment tagging guns with exposed hollow sharp needles that can cause puncture wounds and result in potential exposure to a bloodborne pathogen. ABATEMENT NOTE: Additional training under all applicable sections of 29 CFR 1910.1030(g) will be required after abatement is achieved on this citation.

29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(2)(i): Engineering and work practice controls were not used to eliminate or minimize employee exposure: (a) Donation Sorting Area: On or about December 18, 2019 employees were using garment tagging guns with exposed hollow sharp needles and the employer had not implemented work practice controls to eliminate exposure to bloodborne pathogens such as, but not limited to, prohibiting the sharing of tagging guns and/or requiring the guns to be disinfected and needles disposed of after a puncture wound occurred.
