29 CFR 1910.243(c)(1) as required by 1960.8(b): Abrasive wheel(s) were used on portable grinder(s) which were not provided with safety guard(s) meeting the requirements specified in 29 CFR 1910.243(c)(1) through (c)(4). U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, Detroit Station, Vehicle Maintenance Shop: On or about February 6, 2020, the employer failed to ensure a Blue Point ¼ Die Grinder, Model AT115, S/N 09240765 was equipped with the appropriate factory provided guard while in use. An employee tasked with using the tool in this condition was exposed to the rotating wheel while cutting off exhaust bolts.

29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1) as required by 1960.8(b): Employees were not provided effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment and whenever a new hazard that the employees had not been previously trained about was introduced into their work area: U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, Detroit Station, Vehicle Maintenance Shop: On or about February 6, 2020, the employer failed to provide employees with effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment. Employee worked with various chemicals while preforming vehicle maintenance and cleaning operations thereby exposing employees to respiratory and burn hazards.
