29 CFR 1910.176(b):Secure storage. Storage of material is creating a hazard. A) In the storage area of the line maintenance shop; the metal racks used to store materials had been struck and deformed. The deformed parts of the racks were showing early signs of structural failure. The employer had several heavy items stored on the tops of the racks, including large wooden spools of cable. Structural failure of the racks could result in heavy material falling on any employees in the area.

29 CFR 1910.253(b)(4)(i): Oxygen cylinders were stored near highly combustible material, especially oil and grease; or near reserve stocks of carbide and acetylene or other fuel-gas cylinders, or near any other substance likely to cause or accelerate fire; or in an acetylene generator compartment. A) Oxygen/acetylene welding carts were stored next to extra oxygen bottles in the welding shop. The acetylene bottles were connected to regulators ready for use. Mixing oxidizers and fuel gasses in an area could result in the rapid acceleration of a fire.
