29 CFR 1928.57(a)(6)(iii): Stop engine, disconnect the power source, and wait for all machine movement to stop before servicing, adjusting, cleaning, or unclogging the equipment, except where the machine must be running to be properly serviced or maintained, in which case the employer shall instruct employees as to all steps and procedures which are necessary to safely service or maintain the equipment; (a) On or about March 19, 2022, the employer did not ensure that employees disconnected the power source before servicing or adjusting equipment. The employer assigned two workers to troubleshoot a Pit Manure Belt conveyor but did not ensure that the power source was disconnected prior to removing a guard. This condition exposed employees to hand and finger amputations. Opal Foods, LLC was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard 29 CFR 1928.57(a)(6)(iii), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1525247, citation number 1, item number 1 group letter A and was affirmed as final order on 10/14/2021, with respect to a workplace located at 9575 Weld County Road 73 Roggen, CO 80652.
