The trench/excavation measured 16 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 4 foot 6 inches deep on the east side of the trench and 5 feet 4 inches deep on the west side with loose soil all around from previous site work.

Employees engaged in trenching and excavating work to add a new electrical connection to a new multi-unit development. The competent person required employees to enter and work in a trench/excavation with no trench box, nor benching/sloping measures in place to prevent employees from being exposed to cave in hazards. The trench/excavation measured 16 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 4 foot 6 inches deep on the east side of the trench and 5 feet 4 inches deep on the west side with loose soil all around from previous site work.
