29 CFR  1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use. Reference: ANSI Z358.1 Emergency Eyewash and Shower Standard 5.4.4 The eyewash unit shall be located on the same level as the hazard and the path of travel shall be free of obstructions that may inhibit the immediate use of the equipment.  Building 625: On or before October 18, 2022, employees handled corrosive chemicals such as Comet Disinfecting and Clorox Bleach P&G Proline solution while conducting cleaning and washing tasks. Employer had the following:  a) Janitor Closet: Wall mounted eye wash station did not provide 15-minute continuous flow for drenching for emergency aid and had the access blocked by container.  b) Laundry Room: Wall mounted eye wash station did not provide 15-minute continuous flow for drenching for emergency aid.   This condition potentially exposed employees to corneal and/or skin burns.

29 CFR  1910.132(d)(2): The employer did not verify that the required workplace hazard assessment has been performed through a written certification which included the requirements as outlined in 29 CFR 1910.132(d)(2).  Building 625: On or before October 18, 2022, employees handled corrosive chemicals while swapping and refilling empty containers at this workspace. Employer had the following:  a) Janitors closet: Hazard assessment for refilling 32 oz. spray bottle with Comet Disinfecting had not been performed.  b) Laundry room: Hazard assessment for swapping 5-gallon containers for Clorox Bleach for laundry tasks had not been performed.  Employees were exposed to eyes and skin damage and/or burn(s).

Employer had the following:  a) Janitors closet: Nitrile gloves utilized instead of rubber gloves when refilling 32 oz. spray bottle. b) Laundry room: Nitrile gloves utilized instead of rubber or neoprene gloves when swapping 5-gallon containers.   Employees were exposed to eye damage and/or skin burn(s).

The employer did not provide health specific training for chemicals used which potentially exposed employees to eye and skin irritation.
