Only one maintenance employee applied a lockout tagout lock and tag.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) Castle Canning LLC. 517 Vine Avenue Sharon, PA 16146, Shop Area: On or about 07/20/2023 and at times prior thereto, employees were working at and around the Douglas machine (serial #M-2881) in the labeling and packaging area which did not have effective machine guarding in place to prevent employees from contacting moving parts. The moving parts included, but were not limited to, chain, sprocket, and associated linkage. Multiple guards were not closed or were missing while in operation. b) Castle Canning LLC. 517 Vine Avenue Sharon, PA 16146, Shop Area: On or about 07/20/2023 and at times prior thereto, employees were working at and around the Angelis 100L Seamer machine (serial #8599873) which did not have effective machine guarding in place to prevent employees from contacting moving parts. The moving parts included, but were not limited to, chain, sprocket, and associated linkage.

The platform contained a 24-inch by 28-inch opening at the step up platform between kettle #1 and kettle #2.
