29 CFR 1910.28 (b)(5)(ii)(A): The employer can demonstrate that it is not feasible to have guardrails on both sides of a runway used exclusively for a special purpose, and the employer has omitted the guardrail on one side of the runway, but the employer did not ensure that the runway is at least 18 inches (46 cm) wide. a) Standard Steel, LLC. 500 North Walnut St, Burnham, PA . Overhead cranes in the melting area: Employees used a runway to access overhead cranes where guardrails were not feasible. Employees were not provided with an 18-inch runway and continuous fall protection along the length of the runway, on or about May 20, 2024. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.

The employer is not required to provide any fall protection, provided the work is both infrequent and temporary. a) Standard Steel, LLC. 500 North Walnut St, Burnham, PA.: On or about May 20, 2024, three maintenance employees conducted repairs to a roof vent that was in excess of 18 feet above grade without an adequate fall protection system being utilized. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
