29 CFR 1910.132(a): Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact. On or about October 9, 2024, the employer did not ensure that personal protective equipment such as gloves and safety glasses were readily available and provided to employees working on the Haeger PEM Nut Insertion Presses, Amada Laser Cutting Machines, and Cincinnati Press Brakes. Employees were using worn out gloves, worn out safety glasses, improper gloves for the task, or working without gloves and/or safety glasses. Employees are exposed to lacerations and/or eye injuries. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).

General-duty citation text
29 CFR 1910.217(f)(2): Instruction to operators. The employer shall train and instruct the operator in the safe method of work before starting work on any operation covered by this section. The employer shall insure by adequate supervision that correct operating procedures are being followed. On or about October 9, 2024, the employer did not ensure employees operating Haeger Press Machines were properly trained. Non-English-speaking employees were not provided training instructions in both a language and vocabulary that the employees could understand. Employees were exposed to caught-in hazards which could result in contusions, lacerations, or partial amputations. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
