The employee was preparing to operate the water stripper gun to perform a quick test prior to beginning work. During the test, a particle lodged in one of the newly installed jewel tip nozzles of the whip hose causing a sudden surge in pressure. This resulted in a failure of the whip hose (the pressure surged to 18,000 PSI and was rated for 22,000 PSI). High pressure water exited the hose from the break and struck the employee's wrist.
