An employee was making die adjustments on a brake press machine when the upper die came down on his fingers, fracturing his left index and middle fingers and his right index, middle, and ring fingers. All fractures occurred between the nail bed and middle knuckle. He also sustained an avulsion of the skin on the left index and middle fingers at the proximal interphalangeal joint. The employee was hospitalized and required surgery.
