Final narrative
Multiple employees were replacing ties underneath a rail on a side track and then moving a metal plate across a tie. The rail was lifted a couple inches off the ground using a backhoe with a cribbing bucket. The injured employee reached over the rail to move the tie plate when the rail slipped and fell on his left hand, resulting in amputation of the ring finger. The middle finger was also injured and required surgical repair.
