Decorator Change Over

Operator was completing the changeover process when he noticed the drip pan on [REDACTED] #8 was leaking. Using a rag he was cleaning the underside of the pan when the tail of the rag was caught by the rollers of [REDACTED] and took his right hand into the rollers. Operator admitted this was not a routine task as part of the change over process. Operator was able to remove his right pinky finger but his middle and ring fingers were still in the machine. He summoned for help by 2 coworkers who assisted in pulling the e-stop cord. After an attempt to remove his hand from the roller a third co-worker had to use a pry bar to remove the top transfer roll pin in order to free the operator 's hand from the machine. Once freed his hand was wrapped up to control bleeding and transported to the local ER for treatment. Operator suffered no fractures but did receive 19 stitches to the left middle and ring fingers. A drug and alcohol panel was conducted and are currently awaiting results. Operator
