Maintenace employees had completed the installation of a new muffle in an annealing furnace. They were putting the muffle housing and components back together. One of the components was a lid at the discharge side of the annealing furnace.

The employee was working to move a 4.5ft x 2ft x .25 inch (face)plate with another employee at the discharge end of the Alloy Abbot annealing furnace. The plate was on a pallet. The employees were standing on ladders. As the employees lifted the plate off the pallet in order to reinstall on to the furnace the plate 's weight came off of the pallet and the injured employees right arm gave out and experienced a strain. The plate weighs approximately 40 kgs.

Torn right bicep tendon

The lifting of the 4.5 ft x 2 ft x 0.25-inch face plate from the pallet to the furnace caused the injury to occur.
