Before the incident
Employee noticed a tire with a defect on the conveyor near the gantry and since he has also worked in the Final Finish department he knows that defective tires are cut on the sidewall to render them unusable. Using his own personal folding knife and without any protective gloves he went to make a cut in the sidewall of the tire. Cutting with his right hand the blade slipped and ran across the top of his left thumb cutting across the knuckle towards the fingernail. He went to the restroom to clean the cut and wrap it to stop the bleeding and realized that it would require medical attention. [REDACTED] his lead called and [REDACTED] and myself responded and took him to the dispensary where the wound was dressed and he was referred off to Urgent Care where he received a few stitches. First responders were sent to sanitize the area from the several drops of blood around the area and sink where he cleaned up.
