The employee normal duties.

While manually lifting a drum containing hydrochloric acid (HCl) off a pallet without assistance and without the use of a dolly or mechanical aid the approximately 500-pound drum slipped during handling and landed on the employee’s foot. The employee was initially evaluated by an on-site athletic trainer and received follow-up medical treatment the next day at a Concentra clinic making the incident OSHA recordable due to treatment beyond first aid. The mechanism of injury was the uncontrolled movement of the heavy chemical drum during repositioning resulting in direct impact to the foot. An investigation is currently underway to identify the root cause and determine appropriate corrective actions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
