The intern was standing on a catwalk assisting with bushing removal.

A Nucor teammate handed a 12 lb bushing over a handrail up to another Nucor teammate without incident. As the Nucor Teammate hoisted the second bushing over the handrail an intern stepped forward to grab it from the Nucor teammate. Before the intern could get his hands on the bushing the Nucor teammate dropped it approximately 4 ' to the catwalk where the intern was standing. The bushing hit the grating first and then struck the intern 's right shin.

This injury started off as a first aid with a hematoma and scratch to the right shin which was treated with ice. The pain initially decreased the first few days but then it suddenly started getting worse causing discomfort while walking. On 03-27-25 the intern was taken to St. [REDACTED] Business Health for x-ray and further evaluation. The x-ray was negative but on 03-27-25 the intern was prescribed an anti-biotic to stop current infection and prevent future infection.
