We were trying to obtain an IV in a pt. The IV blew and I also had labs in the am so I was just going to collect the blood then. Tried to hand the lab tube to the other nurse and got poked.

A nurse poked the pt the vein blew I tried to hand over a lab tube to collect the blood so I did not have to poke the baby again. When handing it over the other nurse was in the process of retracting the needle and I got poked.

Needle poke to left ring finger

IV cath needle

While placing an IV the patient 's vein collapsed so EE handed the blood collection tube over to coworker and EE inadvertently sustained a needlestick to left ring finger during pass.
