Casting bars of nickel
What happened
During the Casting process the far east launder tube was experiencing a buildup of metal which was limiting the flow into that mold. At this time the Caster following our standard operating procedures used a rod to attempt to clear the drain hole. It was discovered during the investigation that the tip of the pin had broken off. This made it so that the flow could not be stopped into this mold. Once the mold got low enough molten metal was introduced to the water sprays below causing a steam based reaction.
