Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a recognized hazard of electrical shock or burns: (a)M/V Blue Wave: Employees working in the compressor room using the 110 V AC outlet on the aft bulkhead were exposed to electric shock or burns from an ungrounded circuit. (b)M/V Blue Wave: Employees working in the tool room using the 110 V AC outlet were exposed to electric shock or burns from an outlet wired with reversed polarity. Among other methods, one acceptable and feasible method of abatement would be to rewire the outlets to insure proper polarity and grounding.
