Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards
that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees:
a)  On or about September 10, 2002, and at times prior, employees were not
protected from
injury, where in the wharf area, employees were exposed to falls in excess
of 15 feet when
accessing the wharf office.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this
hazard is to install
guard rails at the landing area between the top of the stairway and the
door the wharf office.
Abatement Note:  Abatement certification and documentation is required for
this item
