Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being caught between the elevator platform and the hoistway wall: a. Main building electric freight elevator, on or about 11/20/2003: The electric freight elevator in which the employees ride to transfer material from floor to floor was not equipped with a front cab door or gate to prevent employees from being caught between the hoistway wall and the elevator car platform. Abatement note: One feasible abatement method is to install an interlocked door or gate at each entrance of the elevator car as required by the ANSI standard for existing elevator: ANSI 17.3-1986 3.4.2 Abatement certification must be submitted for this citation.
