Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a. On November 12, 2003, employee(s) stood on the top caps and or top steps of an 8 foot step ladder while accessing a 9 foot platform that contained a vacuum pump, thus exposing the employee(s) to a fall hazard. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement procedures to correct the hazard, include: 1. Train employees in the proper selection and safe use of ladders. 2. Provide a straight ladder that extends at least 3' above the platform. Abatement Certification and Abatement Documentation required.
