Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to blunt force trauma injuries from dropped, falling, and toppling crane loads in that care was not taken to ensure the load did not contact any obstructions and there was no sudden acceleration or deceleration of the moving load: a) Young Galvanizing, Inc.- Pulaski, PA - Quench Tank Area: On or about March 29, 2007 the crane's load was struck with a steel bar and or knocked against the quench tank to dislodge excess galvanizing material. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods to correct the condition include training the operators in accordance with the requirements noted in ANSI B30.11 Monorail Cranes Section 11-3.2.3 (c)(1)-(2) which states - care will be taken to ensure that the load does not contact any obstructions and there is no sudden acceleration or deceleration of the moving load. Young Galvanizing, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Administration Standard section 5a1 or its equivalent industry consensus standard ANSI 30.11 Monorail Systems and Underhung Cranes Section 11-3.2.3 (c)(1)-(2) which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 309332229, Citation Number 01, Item Number 07b, issued on 07/07/06.
