Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to struck by hazards:
On or about 07/07/07 at Pendergrass, GA: An employee was exposed to struck
by hazards,
while removing a mold from an injection mold machine. The employer failed
to ensure that
molds were safely loaded onto an aluminum platform truck.
"AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT
METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS":
The employer should ensure that injection molds are loaded properly onto
platform trucks /
carts, and train its employees on loading procedures, which specifically
address the balancing
of loads. As part of this abatement, the employer should consider
fabricating and installing
cradles, specially designed to properly secure injection molds on carts or
platform trucks.
In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required
for this violation
(using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
