Employees physically carried countertops, which could range in configuration or in lengths up to 119inches.

Employees were exposed to skin absorption hazards when applying WilsonArt 800 Series Adhesive and PT58 Paint Thinner. (b) Top Shop, Inc., dba American Cabinet & Flooring, Inc. @ 3300 E. 43rd Ave., Denver, CO 80216: On and before 1/23/12, the employer did not assess job tasks that required the use of personal protective equipment. Employees were exposed to foot injuries when physically carrying countertops.

29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes: (a) Top Shop, Inc., dba American Cabinet & Flooring, Inc. @ 3300 E. 43rd Ave., Denver, CO 80216: On and before 1/23/12, the employer did not ensure that employees were provided with hand protection for use during the application of PT58 Paint Thinner, a Valspar Corp. product. The PT58 Paint Thinner contains chemicals which may expose employees to harmful affects via skin absorption.

29 CFR 1910.1052(d)(2): The employer did not perform initial exposure monitoring to determine each affected employees exposure to methylene chloride: (a) Top Shop, Inc., dba American Cabinet & Flooring, Inc. @ 3300 E. 43rd Ave., Denver, CO 80216: On and before 1/23/12, the employer did not perform initial exposure monitoring for employees exposed to methylene chloride. Employees utilized StarStuk NS75, a NorthStar Chemical, while applying laminate decking to countertops. The adhesive, StarStuk NS75, contained 65-75%, by weight, methylene chloride. This condition exposed employees to increased risk of developing cancer, adverse effects on the heart, central nervous system and liver, and skin or eye irritation.
