Employees were exposed to hazards from fire and explosion due to the deposits of combustible residues located on the electrical equipment.

29 CFR 1910.107(g)(2):     All spraying areas were not kept as free from the accumulation of deposits of combustible residues as practical, with cleaning conducted daily if necessary:      a)  Kard Welding, Inc. - On or about February 16, 2012, the employer did not assure that the spray area was free of accumulation of combustible residue. The walls inside the spray area were covered with overspray exposing employees to hazards from fire and explosion from the potential ignition of the combustible material.

29 CFR 1910.134(e)(1):       The employer did not provide a medical evaluation to determine the employee's ability to use a respirator, before the employee was fit tested or required to use a respirator in the workplace:    a)  Kard Welding, Inc. - On or about February 16, 2012, the employer did not assure that employees received a medical evaluation prior to requiring the use of a respirator.  Employees were utilizing a Sperian half-face cartridge style respirator to protect themselves from being potentially exposed to organic vapors such as but not limited to Xylene, Benzene and Methyl n-Amyl Ketone while painting structural steel beams.  A respirator can place a burden on an employees cardiovascular and respiratory systems.
