Minster, OH: The employer did not ensure the nip points(s) on the conveyor leading to the Wheelabrator were adequately guarded. Employees removing blasting shot from the material cart as it exited the Wheelabrator near this condition were exposed to amputation hazards.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) Kard Welding, Inc. on or about January 29, 2021 at the address of 480 Osterloh Rd. Minster, OH: The employer did not ensure the nip point created between the conveying rollers and the material cart on the Wheelabrator were adequately guarded. An employee removing blasting shot from the material cart as it exited the Wheelabrator suffered amputation and crushing injuries as a result of this condition.
