The employer shall ensure that each affected employee uses protective footwear when working in areas where there is a danger of foot injuries due to falling or rolling objects, or objects piercing the sole, and where such employee's feet are exposed to electrical hazards. a. 29 CFR 1910.176(a): Use of mechanical equipment. Where mechanical handling equipment is used, sufficient safe clearances shall be allowed for aisles, at loading docks, through doorways and wherever turns or passage must be made. Aisles and passageways shall be kept clear and in good repair, with no obstruction across or in aisles that could create a hazard. Permanent aisles and passageways shall be appropriately marked. a. At the workplace located at 2000 Nutter Farms Lane, Delaware, Ohio, throughout the warehouse, permanent aisles and passageways were not marked in areas where there was pedestrian traffic, pallets of product staged and powered industrial vehicles operated, exposing employees to a struck-by hazard.
