Employees were exposed to the hazard of contacting blood or other potentially infectious materials.

29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(4)(iv)(A)(1): Contaminated laundry was not bagged or containerized at the location where it was used and shall not be sorted or rinsed at the location of use: Atwater prison: Employees left the prison facility with blood on their clothing, and employees with blood on their clothing left the Special Housing Unit and proceeded to other parts of the facility. Sometimes employees placed the bloody clothes in bags with a biohazard symbol, sometimes employees took their bloody clothes to a small room with a washer and washed them, and sometimes employees wore their bloody clothes to their residence. A management representative said they did not require employees to change in the work area if there was blood on their clothes. Employees were exposed to the hazard of contacting blood or other potentially infectious materials.

THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, FEDERAL BUREAU OF PRISONS, FEDERAL CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTION WAS PREVIOUSLY CITED FOR A VIOLATION OF THIS OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH STANDARD OR ITS EQUIVALENT STANDARD 29 CFR 1910.132(D)(2) WHICH WAS CONTAINED IN OSHA INSPECTION NUMBER 706246, CITATION NUMBER 2, ITEM NUMBER 1, AND WAS AFFIRMED AS A FINAL ORDER ON FBRUARY 19, 2013, WITH RESPECT TO A WORKPLACE LOCATED AT 5765 8TH STREET, CAMP PARKS, DUBLIN, CALIFORNIA.

29 CFR 1904.40(a): When an authorized government representative asked for the records kept under Part 1904, the employer did not provide copies of the records within four (4) business hours: Atwater prison: The OSHA 300 log for 2014 was not provided when requested by e-mail on September 24, 2014, and on October 28, 2014. The OSHA 301s were not provided for the officers that were injured during the August 15, 2014, altercation with an inmate when requested by OSHA during the inspection on September 25, 2014, and by e-mail on October 28, 2014.
