Section 5(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards: (a) On or about February 27, 2015, for the employee struck by plate steel while performing seam alignment work activities inside a DAVI, model MCB 3070WT, serial no. 20740171, rolled can at 1820 North Plum Avenue, Brandon, South Dakota. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard would be for the employer to develop and implement a securement procedure to eliminate unwanted movement and overlapping of the leading and trailing steel plate edges during welding, cutting, grinding and aligning operations while an employee is inside the can.
