A & B Foundry was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Standard, which was contained in OSHA Inspection number 737142, Citation 2 Item 1 issues on May 14, 2013 and became a Final Order on December 18, 2013.

29 CFR 1910.132(e): Defective and damaged equipment. Defective or damaged personal protective equipment shall not be used.    The employer did not ensure that defective or damaged personal protective equipment was not being used in that on January 15, 2016 and February 18, 2016 the metal pourer was observed wearing reflective aluminized coats with torn sleeves, preventing the coat from adequately protecting the arms when pouring molten aluminum at temperatures greater than 1200 degrees Fahrenheit. 29 CFR 1910.133(a)(1): The employer shall ensure that each affected employee uses appropriate eye or face protection when exposed to eye or face hazards from flying particles, molten metal, liquid chemicals, acids or caustic liquids, chemical gases or vapors, or potentially injurious light radiation.    On January 15, 2016 an employee was observed pouring molten aluminum at temperatures greater than 1200 degrees fahrenheit in the main foundry without wearing personal protective equipment to protect the face from splashes in that the face shield was tipped up during part of the pouring process. On December 21, 2015 employees working in the mold break up area, Cast Cleaning and Cutoff departments were observed wearing 2-strap filtering face piece respirators and had not been medically evaluated before being required to use the respirator in the workplace.
