29 CFR 1910.265(e)(5)(iii)(a): Edgers shall be provided with safety fingers or other approved methods of preventing kickbacks or guarding against them. A barricade in line with the edger, if properly fenced off, may be used if safety fingers are not feasible to install. a. On July 24, 2019, at the Reclaim Edger machine, while feeding a stave into the machine the safety fingers installed on the machine did not prevent a kickback of the stave and a piece of the stave struck an operator. b. On July 26, 2019, at the Heart Edger machine on Line #1, while feeding a stave into the machine the safety fingers installed on the machine did not prevent a kickback of the stave which struck an operator.
