Paint Complex Bays, including 1 and 7: Employee(s) engaged in aircraft priming operations were observed handling personal protective equipment, which was contaminated with hexavalent chromium, without hand protection. Employees were exposed to irritant hazards associated with hexavalent chromium.

29 CFR 1910.134(h)(1)(i): Respirators issued for the exclusive use of an employee were not cleaned and disinfected as often as necessary to be maintained in a sanitary condition: Paint Complex Bay 1: Employee(s) engaged in aircraft priming operations were priming with PPG 44GN007, which contained chromium ingredients. Wipe samples inside an employee's respirator prior to and after priming activities both showed presence of hexavalent chromium in the mask. Respiratory protection had not been effectively cleaned. Employees were exposed to irritant hazards associated with hexavalent chromium.

29 CFR 1910.1026(j)(3)(i): The employer did not ensure that waste, scrap, debris, and any other materials contaminated with chromium (VI) and cosigned for disposal were collected and disposed of in sealed, impermeable bags or other closed, impermeable containers: Paint Complex Bays, including 1 and 7: Production waste contaminated with hexavalent chromium was discarded into an open bin. The contaminated waste was not sealed in impermeable and/or closed containers. Employees were exposed to irritant hazards associated with hexavalent chromium.
