Before the incident
“I was assisting a patient in transferring from the bed to a recliner chair. The patient required more assistance than during previous therapy sessions. I was also assessing whether the patient’s spouse could manage his care at home before the care conference scheduled for that day.
What happened
The patient was unable to actively participate in the transfer as he had during previous sessions. Despite my efforts to safely position both the patient and myself he required increased assistance and was left in an unsafe position. I could not take my hands off the patient and after considerable time and effort managed to scoot him into a safe enough position to use the [REDACTED] to complete the transfer. During and after this process I felt a pain in my abdomen that persisted throughout the rest of my shift and continues to bother me.
