Before the incident
Employee was under a semi trailer toward the rear end preparing to repair weld a steel pumper. The 50 lb. bumper comprised of 4 square tubing was on two jack stands and positioned under the frame stem where it was to be re attached.
What happened
The employee stopped due to lunch approaching and crawled out on the passenger side of the trailer and reached out with his right hand onto the DOT bumper to assist himself to his feet. When he applied his weight down and toward the rear of the trailer it shifted the opposite end of the bumper bar off the jack stands. This resulted in the end of the bumper where he had his hand to raise up trapping the ring finger of the right hand between the bar and metal edge of the lift gate hydraulic cylinder. The employee reported the incident immediately to the supervisor.
